Gun safety and proper attention to the operation of the range are of great importance to the members of the Rock Creek Renegades. Youth and beginning shooters are always carefully coached and advised in the proper ways to load, fire and care for the various firearms allowed at the range.
The National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (NMLRA) maintains a range and operates shooting events near Friendship, Indiana. NMLRA also promotes the sport of muzzleloading and provides excellent training and education opportunities for clubs and their members.
In May of 2014, the Rock Creek Renegades arranged for two of the top NMLRA instructors to travel to the Lincoln area to provide training for Range Officers. The club wanted to insure that it is providing the best and safest possible experience for those who participate in RCR events.
The training involved several hours of "classroom" instruction followed by time of the range practicing loading, shooting and conducting shooting relays. As a result of that all-day training event, there are now fourteen new Certified Field Range Officers in the Lincoln-Omaha area.
Of those fourteen, six received certification as Instructors and are now prepared to offer Range Officer Training to help other clubs insure that they have all the best information to run safe and efficient shooting events and activities.
Instructors are willing to travel to other locations to do training. The only costs will be for the materials and the travel for the instructors. A minimum of twenty participants is encouraged.
